Dodoma, Tanzania
The Savings and Credit Cooperative Union League of Tanzania (SCCULT), in collaboration with key stakeholders, successfully held the official launch of the Cooperative Banking Platform in Dodoma yesterday. The event marked a significant milestone in strengthening digital financial services tailored for cooperative societies across Tanzania.
The launch was officiated by high-level representatives from the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC), and leading cooperative stakeholders including SACCOS and AMCOS. The platform, commonly referred to as CSS (Cooperative System Solution), is designed to digitize operations, enhance transparency, improve access to financial services, and promote secure data handling for cooperative institutions.
In his opening remarks, the SCCULT Chief Executive Officer emphasized the importance of adopting secure and innovative systems in the cooperative sector to improve financial inclusion and service delivery. “This launch is a step forward in ensuring SACCOS across the country have the tools they need to operate effectively, securely, and transparently,” he said.
The CSS platform has already onboarded several cooperatives including DCTW, PCCB, TCDC, MKUKUAMI, and UKAGUZI SACCOS. The system has undergone pilot testing and initial training for user adoption, with future plans to conduct zonal training in various regions such as Arusha, Mwanza, and Mbeya.
Among key recommendations made during the event were the need to:
- Conduct thorough vulnerability assessments and penetration testing,
- Ensure continuous user training and technical support,
- Maintain compliance with the Personal Data Protection Act,
- Involve all levels of users in the system enhancement process.
The event ended with a live demonstration of the system, showcasing core functionalities such as member registration, loan processing, financial reporting, and user management. Participants expressed their confidence in the platform’s ability to transform cooperative financial services in Tanzania.
